FAQs
How does Positive Psychology Coaching differ from traditional therapy?
You are probably familiar with the concept of traditional therapy -- using psychological methods to address trauma, treat mood disorders, or overcome problems. Positive Psychology Coaching, on the other hand, is designed to be additive and to help you not just survive but thrive.
Positive Psychology Coaching is very future-focused: we’ll work to identify your unique values and strengths and leverage them to help you take steps toward important goals. We’ll discuss strategies and techniques to help you live a more fulfilling and enjoyable life, and you’ll develop new self-awareness and self-regulation skills.

Positive Psychology Coaching is not a replacement for therapy. Many Hatch Joy clients have continued their therapy while working with us.
Why should I consider hiring a Positive Psychology Coach instead of a Therapist?
Trick question! The data tells us that the number one factor that determines client outcome is not whether your practitioner is a Coach or a Therapist, but is the therapeutic relationship itself and whether you experience great empathy, trust, and warmth. The therapeutic relationship even outweighs the impact of the unique treatment offerings that each practitioner provides.
With this in mind, your top priority in selecting a provider is to identify someone with whom you feel safe, heard, and supported. Schedule your complimentary informational call today to determine if we are a match!

Am I a good fit for Positive Psychology Coaching?
Typically the people who seek out Positive Psychology Coaching describe themselves as being stuck, feel like something is missing in their life, are going through big transitions, or simply want to feel like they are getting more out of their life. Some people hire a coach with a specific goal in mind that they hope to achieve, while others feel like they are floundering and wish to find direction in their lives.
Still wondering if coaching is the right option for you? Feel free to schedule a complimentary informational call and we can talk it out!
What does a session look like?
Hatch Joy offers both in-person (for local Atlanta clients) and virtual coaching sessions, each lasting 50 minutes. The frequency at which we meet (weekly, bi-monthly, monthly, etc) and the quantity of sessions booked is completely up to you. While some clients feel like they’ve achieved the boost they were looking for, having learned new skills and strategies to run with on their own after just a few sessions, others prefer an ongoing relationship where we continue to build upon foundational skills.
Will my sessions be covered by insurance?
No. Health insurance companies are extremely strict with what they cover. The general rule of thumb is that only treatment or services used to treat, diagnose, or manage a medical condition will be covered. This means Hatch Joy cannot accept FSA or HSA funds as payment either. However, many organizations will often cover or subsidize the cost of coaching as they agree that employees cannot do their best work unless they are living their best lives. I recommend inquiring about your options with your Human Resources department.
